At Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital, we have a number of sophisticated diagnostic tools that we use to obtain detailed information about your dog or cat’s condition. This can include blood work, digital x-rays, ultrasound, and more. These advanced diagnostics are also used in our preventative care exams, to help combat diseases and parasites in their earliest stages, before they are able to pose a threat to your pet’s health. We have an on-site laboratory that allows for the results of many of these tests to be delivered in under an hour, which saves crucial time in diagnosing critical injuries or in emergency situations.
Digital radiology, or x-ray, is a non-invasive method of examining your dog or cat’s internal organs and internal systems such as muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, reproductive, and urinary systems. The image quality of a digital x-ray is much higher than a film x-ray and there is no time lost in processing the image.
The digital images can be visualized within a few seconds following exposure, reducing the amount of time your dog or cat is under safe, general anesthesia if required. Because we are able to view the x-ray almost immediately, we can quickly diagnose and treat your pet. Digital radiology is environmentally friendly because there are no chemicals to contaminate water systems. Radiation exposure to your pet is also reduced as we use far less radiation for digital radiography.
We offer ultrasound services at Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital. This is an imaging tool that provides a non-invasive method of examining your dog or cat’s internal organs. Orthopedic abnormalities, intestinal obstructions, organ enlargement, and other conditions can be discovered with this device. It is a non-invasive, state of the art technology that uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs.
As the sound waves travel into the body they return three dimensional images (length, width and depth) of certain internal organs allowing for depth dimension of the organ and good visualization of the edges of the organ. Ultrasound returns results in real time. Pregnancy exams utilizing ultrasound technology are also available.
We have an in-house, state of the art laboratory for diagnostic testing which gives us test results in a short period of time. We can run complete blood chemistry panels, blood tests for heartworm and tick borne diseases, and urinalysis to check for kidney and bladder health (verified by outside laboratory in some cases). We are able to share the results of these tests with you in a few minutes and can respond immediately if treatment is needed.
