Radiology

Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital

Radiography is a valuable diagnostic tool in veterinary medicine. As we continually strive to offer the highest quality medicine and diagnostic testing, we are pleased to offer the latest technology in radiology equipment, digital radiography and digital dental radiology.

A radiograph (also known as an x-ray) is a type of photograph that can look inside the body and reveal information that may not be discernible from the outside. Radiography can be used to evaluate almost any organ in the body, including the heart, lungs, and abdominal organs, as well as the bones.

Radiographs can be used to evaluate the state of the bones as well as the size, shape, and position of many of the organs. The size and condition of the organs are important because some medical conditions—such as kidney, heart, or liver disease—can alter the size of these organs.

Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital has digital radiography equipment. Digital radiology produces an image that is much higher quality than a film x-ray and there is no time lost in processing the image. We are able to visualize the digital images within a few seconds following exposure, allowing us to diagnose and treat your pet quickly. It decreases radiation exposure to your pet because we can manipulate the images via a computer as opposed to having to retake the image. Digital radiology is environmentally friendly because there are no chemicals to contaminate water systems.

We also have digital dental radiology equipment. Digital dental radiography allows us to visualize the internal anatomy of your pet's teeth along with the roots and surrounding bone. This allows us to diagnose bone loss or hidden disease that may be present in the tooth roots and jawbone areas that may not have been visible during our thorough oral exam prior to the dental procedure.

Radiographs are an important tool that can help us make an accurate diagnosis for your pet. Our radiology service is staffed by caring, skilled professionals who will provide state of the art care to your pet with compassion and expertise utilizing the most current digital radiology equipment available.
